The father had sex with a young girl he called his “girlfriend”
A father repeatedly had sex with his 14-year-old daughter and threatened her with violence when she subsequently complained to the police.
The man, who privately referred to the teenager as a “girlfriend” for three years of abuse, also gave her vodka, cannabis and amphetamines.
The victim had no contact with the accused, his natural father, until his early teens, when she moved to live with him in Leicestershire and the abuse began.
The man, who is not named in order to protect the identity of the victim, was sentenced by a jury to Leicester Crown Court of a series of offenses against the adolescent.
He was convicted of six counts of sexual activity with a child, two offenses of sexual activity with a child family member, between 2006 and 2008.
He was also convicted of one count of obstructing justice by persuading the victim to withdraw his complaint against him, in March 2010.
The man denied all offenses and, halfway through his trial, fled after testifying as chief. The trial continued in his absence.
The accused, who is now 49, began to abuse his daughter at the age of 38, when there was a 24-year age gap between them.
Steven Evans, mitigating before the man was convicted, told the court: “This (the abuse) was caused by the plaintiff.
“She told him that she loved him, not in a father / daughter way, and it was consensual.
“This is not a case where he treated her, nor did he make her drink alcohol in order to commit the offenses.
“The offenses were not committed in a regime of violence or with the application of force or violence.
“There was an age disparity.
“The accused has no previous convictions for anything of a sexual nature.”
The judge said details of the accused will be kept in a sex offender registry indefinitely.
