According to a report by park officials released March 20, Sherwood Island needs $5 million in repairs to help improve the park.

“Sherwood Island (State Park) is a heavily used park, with aging infrastructure, so it’s definitely one of the parks in greatest need of investment,” said State Department spokesman Will Healey. ‘Energy and Environmental Protection in one interview with a TC insider.

Park officials say the $5 million will be used in four ways: a new maintenance complex, improved guest services (such as restrooms and pavilions), repairs to the bridge to enter the island of Sherwood and electrical service upgrades. Park officials are developing plans to rebuild the bridge leading to Sherwood Island.

Staples students also believe Sherwood Island is a high-quality state park, deserving of improvements.

“Sherwood Island is a great place to relax,” said Justin Bard ’23, “and it’s unfortunate that it has to go through such repairs.”
