Preview Salone: ’Sling’ chair by Studiopepe for Ethimo
The Studiopepe fluid chair is comfortable inside and out
The inaugural design of Studiopepe for Ethimo is a garden chair also suitable for indoors, and imbued with the free spirit of camping holidays and trips
The first design by Studiopepe for Italian outdoor furniture specialist Ethimo, the “Sling” chair features a “free holiday spirit” inspired by vintage camping trips. “It’s deeply rooted in our imagination and our camping memories,” say Arianna Lelli Mami and Chiara Di Pinto of Studiopepe. ‘It has a feel of the late 1970s, with a sort of Moonrise Kingdom atmosphere.’ Not to mention an extremely comfortable canvas seat, on which you could easily spend a whole summer evening sipping Camparis.
Although designed for large spaces, the chair will fit into any environment and is presented at Salone del Mobile 2021 as part of Ethimo’s new collection. “We imagine it in a glass roof or a modernist house, but it is also perfect for a balcony”, continue the Milanese designers. “We love the idea that you can bring outdoor furniture indoors. We have this vision of a fluid place, changing with the seasons, the mood and the owner’s needs. ‘
Made in Italy, the chair features a curved stainless steel frame and an ergonomic canvas seat with a vintage-inspired diamond pattern. The tubular steel, which gives it both its strength but also a feeling of lightness, is available in four colors, including a Burnished Bronze version, a new finish that stands out for its unique “soft touch” texture. The comfortable free-hanging canvas seat, which follows the contours of the body, is made with Elitìs ‘Lontano’ fabric, available in black or sand. The collection also includes a matching footrest and a coffee table topped with a concrete surface pigmented Red Stone, White or Purple.
“We designed it during lockdown, so Ethimo sent the prototypes to our studio; it was strange to do everything over the phone, ”say the designers. “We are still working on adding a small cushion, and we will present a new collection of patterns and colors designed in collaboration with Élitis in 2022.” §
