Meralco ready, recharged thanks to Ilocos training camp
Meralco head coach Norman Black said on Wednesday the Bolts are recharging fairly well at their closed-circuit training camp in Laoag, Ilocos Norte.
Meralco has been in the northern city since May 16 and remains there until May 30, when they return home to Manila. Then they return to the Meralco Gym in Pasig for training.
“The team is doing well. We have been here 10 days already, we have trained for eight days on these. The facilities and the gym are very nice. The hotel has been very accommodating,” Black said of the comment. of Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel.
“We’re on the beach. It’s very nice for the players after practice. They have a place to go and relax,” he told ESPN5.com in a phone interview.
In Laoag, Bolts are allowed to roam around hotel premises and use the gym, provided they use protective gear and respect social distancing. Food is also packaged and then served at their respective doors.
Black noted that because they share the Laoag Centennial Arena with sister team TNT, they use the site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For them, that’s more than enough time to continue preparing for the upcoming season.
“The players are moving very well. Basically we put in the system offensively and defensively. At the same time we try to put the team in the best conditions they could be,” he said.
As Meralco returns home and continues to work at his own facility, Black expects his quarters to be ready for the proposed season opener on June 25, as Commissioner Willie Marcial has announced.
“That gives us another four weeks to practice. Actually my guys are moving pretty well. I think my guys will be ready on June 25,” said Black.
