LoC: Pak bombings target schools; 217 students, 15 teachers saved
All schools in Nowshera and Manjakote sectors of Rajouri district have been closed indefinitely due to repeated shooting and shelling by the Pakistani military, officials said here.
Villages like Kalsian, Sair, Bahwani, Namb and Jhangar, which are close to the LoC, were the most affected by the Pakistani shelling, officials said.
A total of 217 students were rescued from three schools, according to Rajouri Shahid Iqbal Choudhary’s deputy commissioner.
Officials said 15 teachers were also evacuated by police and city officials.
They were evacuated in armored vehicles and three buses, they said.
From the government high school in Bhawani, 150 students were transferred while 12 trapped students were evacuated from Kaladi middle school, officials said.
The rescue team narrowly escaped in Bhawani as it was under heavy bombardment, with shells landing a few meters from the school.
Likewise, 55 students and teachers at Sair Public High School narrowly escaped the fact that the building was directly hit by shells, damaging much of it, they said.
Students and teachers were rescued amid heavy shelling, they said.
More than 150 students have been transferred to camps while other students have been handed over to parents.
