After high water and storm damage caused the partial closure of the main access road to Fisherman’s Island State Park and campsites # 36-80, conditions improved and the road to the park has been repaired.

Consequently, the day-use area, located along the Lake Michigan waterfront park in Charlevoix County, will open its doors to vehicles on Friday, June 11.

“Fisherman Island, along with several other state parks and ports, has been impacted by historic high water levels along the Great Lakes,” said Tom Copenhagen, park supervisor. “We have worked hard to complete the road repairs and all of our staff are delighted to have the park fully open again this year.”

Additionally, new reservations at the Rustic Park Campground will open for overnight camping dates starting Friday, June 11 and later. Reservations for these added camping opportunities will be available through the reservation system starting at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9. Reservations can be made at MiDNRReservations.com.
