Dassault paid 284 crore to Anil Ambani: Rahul Gandhi
The agreement was “a partnership between Modi and Anil Ambani,” he said.
On Friday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi made a new allegation that Dassault Aviation had paid “bribes” to the Anil Ambani group to secure the Rafale deal. He also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was having “sleepless nights” because he would not “survive” if the Rafale deal was considered.
Mr. Gandhi’s claims were made on the basis of Dassault Aviation’s 2017 annual report as well as the Reliance Infrastructure annual report led by Anil Ambani, where it is shown that Dassault Aviation invested 284 crores in Reliance Airport Developers Limited ( RADL).
Mr Ambani’s company called the latest allegation a “blatant lie”. In a statement, the company said: “Dassault’s investment in Reliance Airport Developers Limited has no connection with the Rafale contract between the Indian government and France.
“The Congress party falsely alleged that funds invested in RADL were used to purchase land in Mihan, Nagpur for the Dassault-Reliance joint venture,” Reliance Groups said in a statement.
However, Gandhi had previously described Dassault’s investment in RADL as a bribe for the Rafale deal. “If an investigation begins on this [Rafale deal], Mr. Modi will not survive it, it is guaranteed ”, declared Mr. Gandhi during a press conference at the seat of the party.
“One because of corruption and two because it is very clear who the decision-maker was. No one will be able to say that it was a general of the Air Force or the Minister of Defense or a bureaucrat of the Ministry of Defense. It’s clear who the man was, and that was Narendra Modi and the deal made to give Anil Ambani 30,000 crore, ”he added.
The head of Congress also targeted the boss of Dassault Aviation for lying.
“The CEO of Dassault (Eric Trappier) had said that his company had chosen Reliance as a compensation partner because it had land next to an airport. But now it has been revealed that the land was bought by the money invested by Dassault. The CEO is lying, ”Gandhi said.
“The big question is why would a business invest 284 crore in a business with a capital of just over 8 lakh and be in deficit?” It is clear that this (investment) is the first payment of bribes granted by Dassault.
“CBI probe scuttled”
He said if Mr. Modi had nothing to hide he would have been open to investigation and alleged that CBI Director Alok Verma was removed from his post to avoid an investigation.
“If the Prime Minister was not involved, he would have said ‘there is an investigation by the CBI or the Supreme Court’. But he is silent. He has lost sleep because of the stress because he knows he will be taken, ”he said.
