Ben Simmons and camp believe Sixers are making his mental health worse
The Philadelphia 76ers and star Ben Simmons have been going back and forth since the star officially requested his trade in late August after a poor playoff performance. The star guard then had a heist that he ended on Oct. 11, but he also exactly wanted to be with the team.
Things haven’t gone well since his return as he was kicked out of training, suspended for the season opener and then claimed he needed mental help, which led to the team to stop fining him, and then they started fining him again after he left the team out of the loop for a while.
All of these tactics have been frustrating for both sides and Simmons and his agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports have blamed the organization for making things worse for him.
Through Athletic’s Shams Charania and the stadium:
Ben Simmons believes the recent actions of the Philadelphia 76ers are exacerbating his mental health issues and the team want to deem him fit to force him to play no matter what he tells the team’s mental health therapist, has his agent told The Athletic on Thursday.
“I really believe that the fines, the targeting, the negative publicity shone on the issue – it’s very unnecessary and made Ben’s mental health issues worse,” Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul said. “Either help Ben or go out and say he’s lying.” Which one is it? “
Simmons has told the team in the past that he would like to come back to the team, but he needs to get back in shape mentally. While that can still be the case, the Sixers are still trying to get him back to the ground as soon as possible. Therefore, they put some pressure on him to get him back to the ground.
Charaniah added from Paul:
“In this case, we need to get help from Ben and not put finances before mental health,” Paul said. “As an agent, I understand contractual obligations and I hold myself accountable in this company. But if someone tells you something, we can’t turn a blind eye in today’s world.
“It is no longer a profession. It’s about finding a place where we can help Ben regain his mental strength and get back on the pitch. I want him to play the game he loves on the field. I want Ben to be on the ground, whether he’s in a 76ers uniform or whatever, that’s not for me to decide, but I want him to be in a state where he can resume play. cooperate and want to bring him back to the field. “
At this point, it looks like the Sixers will just have to wait until Simmons is mentally ready. They have maintained that they would like him to return to the field with the team, but at this point maybe the fines don’t work and they just need to help him get back with the team. The situation is delicate, but there needs to be some cooperation from both sides.
