Did anybody see the firemen on the traffic island on Glendale Blvd in Echo Park last week? They were their on Monday 4/14/09 for the IAFF’s (International Association of Firefighters) Fill-The-Boot Campaign. The truck was parked in the Arco gas station on Berkeley and Glendale and the firemen would stand on the island, like the pan handlers and fruit vendors, but with their boots in hand going to drivers who would spare some change and make a donation.

The IAFF raises money for muscular dystrophy. Islands of LA applauds their use of available public space as a public forum to raise awareness and support for this health issue. If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so at IAFF’s secure site.

The posters and banner they put on the island that stayed up for a week.
